Intensified ISIS attacks around Tabqa repelled

The SDF operation on Tabqa city and the Euphrates Dam continues amid fierce clashes with ISIS around the city.

Fighters of the YPG-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) continue their operation on Tabqa city and Euphrates Dam as part of the Wrath of Euphrates campaign.

ISIS gangs today attacked the positions of SDF fighters from western, southern and northern sides of Tabqa in an effort to break the siege laid by SDF around the city.

Trying to take advantage of adverse weather conditions, ISIS gangs attacked Ayed al-Kabeer village, surroundings of Tabqa Airport, Safsafa and Sahil al-Xashab villages with heavy weaponry Thursday afternoon. SDF fighters harshly responded to the attacks from three fronts, which resulted in fierce clashes. SDF fighters also destroyed a bomb-laden vehicle of ISIS that was set to target the Sahil al-Xashab village.

In the wake of clashes that lasted around three hours, attacks of the gangs were repelled at around 18:00 in the evening. Many ISIS members were reportedly killed during the fighting but the exact figures were not immediately clear.

Sporadic clashes are taking place between the villages of Safsafa, Ayed al-Kebîr and Ayed Saxîr.
