In Syria, even if the war is over recuperation will take decades

The cost of the civil war in Syria that has taken hundreds of thousands of lives since 2011 is estimated at 226 billion dollars.

A report by the World Bank has focused on the material cost of the civil war in Syria. The report states that the war impacted Syria’s social and economic structures severely and estimates the cost of the war at 226 billion dollars.

The report includes articles on the war as well as satellite images and states that the cost of the war is equal to 4 times the domestic income in 2010.

According to the report, the economy won’t be able to bounce back easily even if the conflict in Syria ends within this year. If the conflict ends, by 2021 Syria’s national dividend will reach 41% of the time before the war.

The report states that 500.000 jobs are lost every year due to the war and that three fourths of the working-age population is unemployed.

The report also states that a quarter of all residential buildings and half of all hospitals and schools in Syria have been damaged in the war.
