Disciplinary proceedings were initiated against imprisoned journalist Celalettin Yalçın for making the victory sign during an open meeting.
The AKP-MHP government's oppression and attacks against prisoners continue.
Celalettin Yalçın, a journalist held in Marmara (Silivri) Prison, was subjected to a disciplinary investigation for making a victory sign during an open visit by his relatives on 5 September. Yalçın objected to the investigation through his lawyers.
Yalçın, who sent a message through his lawyers, said, “At a time when the photo of activist Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, who was murdered in Palestine, making a victory sign is on the agenda of the media, it is noteworthy that an investigation was opened against me for making a victory sign during an open visit. (...) Let them know that political prisoners will not be deterred by such investigations.”
