IBB investigation: 22 taken custody

As part of an investigation launched into alleged "corruption" at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, 22 people have been taken into custody.

New detentions occurred as part of the investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office into alleged corruption at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB).

In the third detention operation, 22 people were taken into custody, including Taner Çetin, the Head of the IBB Press, Broadcasting, and Public Relations Department.

Among those detained are Çeşme Deputy Mayor Onur Gülin and Arzu Can, Taner Çetin’s assistant.

Those detained include: IBB Press, Broadcasting, and Public Relations Head Taner Çetin; his assistant Arzu Can; Public Relations Manager Serap Karay; Deputy Public Relations Manager Mustafa Karaoğlu; inventory officer Musa Özışık; Çeşme Deputy Mayor Onur Gülin; and Avcılar Deputy Mayor Mehmet Mandacı.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said: "In the investigation into actions involving Taner Çetin, known to be associated with Ekrem İmamoğlu since his time as Beylikdüzü Mayor and working under Murat Ongun at Medya A.Ş. and Kültür A.Ş., it was determined based on the findings of the prosecutor’s office that Çetin organized tenders through companies close to him and obtained financial benefits in the form of bribes from these companies. He acquired movable and immovable properties with these gains. According to information submitted to the case by MASAK, Taner Çetin had companies that received contracts from Medya A.Ş. and Kültür A.Ş. make the payments for these purchases. It was also found that these companies sent money to other employees of Medya A.Ş. and Kültür A.Ş."
