Hunger strike in Turkey’s prisons on day 143

The hunger strike launched in Turkish prisons against the Imrali isolation has entered its 143rd day. The solidarity action launched in Maxmur has been continuing for 122 days and in Greece for 105 days.

An indefinite-alternating hunger strike was launched in Turkish prisons on November 27 in order to protest the isolation of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who has been held in Imrali High Security F-Type Closed Prison for 22 years, and the increasing violations of rights in prisons. The massive hunger strike has been taken over by the 29th group two days ago and continues on day 143.

MAXMUR

On December 18, a hunger strike was launched in Martyr Rustem Cudi (Maxmur) Camp under the leadership of women against the Imrali isolation. The action, carried out by the Maxmur Martyrs’ Families Association, has entered its 122th day.

GREECE

The indefinite-alternating hunger strike action in Greece's Lavrio Camp is continuing on day 105. The hunger strike is led by the Revolutionary Youth Movement (TCŞ-Tevgera Ciwanên Şoreşger), the Kurdish Women's Movement in Europe (Tevgera Jinên Kurdistan a Ewropa) and Kurdish Cultural Center (Navenda Çanda Kurdistan).
