HDP politicians attacked outside the party headquarters in Amed

HDP politicians Vedat Dağ and Tarik Mercan were attacked outside the party headquarters in Amed. The attackers were participants in the state-staged sit-in in front of the building.

In front of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) headquarters in Amed (Diyarbakir), HDP members have again been attacked by the group that has been sitting in front of the building for months on the directive of the Turkish state, demanding the surrender of their children.

Those attacked are Vedat Dağ, who works for the provincial association's press office, and Tarik Mercan, an auditor. Dağ and other HDP members have been attacked by the same people earlier. The attack at the entrance of the building was led by Celil Begdaş.

Press spokesman Vedat Dağ told ANF that the attackers were protected by the police. He intends to press charges.

Not the first attack

The sit-in staged by the Turkish state has already resulted in various physical and verbal attacks on people entering and leaving the HDP building. Recently, journalists and HDP members were rudely insulted by Celil Begdaş. Previously, Kenan Canpolat, personal assistant to HDP deputy Semra Güzel, and party members Kezban Kuday and Afife Kartal were verbally attacked and subsequently detained by the police. HDP members Jale Okkan, Yilmaz Dede and Fevzi Akdemir were physically assaulted.

Staged protest

Since September, parents have been sitting in front of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) headquarters in Amed, claiming that their children were taken to the Kurdish guerrillas in the mountains against their will. The staged protest began with the story of a young man who was reported missing by his family to the police. His mother went from the police to the HDP building, broke the windows and demanded her son back, who was allegedly taken to the guerrillas by party members. A short time later, the person himself came forward and told the Mezopotamya news agency that he had left his parental home to escape a forced marriage to a relative.

Despite this manipulation by the police, which has become public, other families continue their sit-in protest in front of the HDP headquarters. The HDP has stated from the beginning that this protest was staged by the state. As it turns out, parents who report their children missing or who are known to be with the guerrillas are summoned by Turkish security forces and told to join the protest in front of the HDP building.

The sit-in protest in front of the HDP headquarters is being given a big build-up in Turkey's mainstream media. The families referred to the HDP by the security forces are provided with food by the police.

Several guerrilla fighters have gone public in recent months, appealing to their parents not to be instrumentalized by the state. In Bolu, a political prisoner attempted suicide when he saw his mother protesting in the media. By participating in the protest, the mother apparently wanted another son, who is a guerrilla fighter in the mountains, to return to her. The captured son survived his suicide attempt because he was discovered in time by fellow prisoners. He was then placed in solitary confinement. Before that, he told his mother that he would repeat his suicide attempt if she continued to be manipulated by the police.
