HDP Co-mayor of Suruç jailed

A total of 24 municipalities held by the HDP have been seized by the Turkish regime since August.

Co-mayor of Suruç municipality held by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), Hatice Çevik, was taken into custody on November 15 as part of the Turkish regime’s increasingly ongoing political genocide operations. On November 16, the Turkish regime appointed a trustee to the municipality.

The detained co-mayor has been remanded in custody on Wednesday. Charged with “membership to a terrorist organization” and “spreading propaganda for a terrorist organization”, Çevik was sent to Urfa T Type Closed Prison.

A total of 24 municipalities held by the HDP have been seized by the Turkish regime since August, including 3 metropolitan municipalities; Diyarbakır, Mardin, Van, Hakkari, Yüksekova, Nusaybin, Kulp, Kayapınar, Bismil, Kocaköy, Erciş, Karayazı, Cizre, Saray, Kızıltepe, Yenişehir, Hazro, İdil, Akpazar, İpekyolu, Suruç, Savur, Derik and Mazıdağı.
