HDP co-chair candidates are Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar

HDP Central Consensus Commission proposed to Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar to be candidates for the co-chairmanship of the party. Both Buldan and Sancar are reported to have accepted.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Central Consensus Commission said in a statement that the candidates for the co-chairmanship of the party will be Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar.

The statement said: "On 23 February 2020, we are holding our 4th Ordinary Congress with the slogan 'We are walking towards the Future'. On this basis, our Central Consensus Commission, which was established to evaluate candidates applications to the co-chairmanship and our party's authorized committees, has made a decision as to the candidates. The component parties, the Peoples' Democratic Congress, the Democratic Society Congress and our committee of individuals exchanged ideas before the congress. As a commission, it has been our primary goal to create an executive team suitable for the pluralistic structure of our party."

The statement added that "meetings with all our prisoner friends in prison were carried out as well as with representatives of the peoples and different belief groups, labor organizations and women organizations, our components from both congresses, HDK and DTK, and intellectuals, writers, artists, activists, journalists and academics. Their opinions and suggestions were taken. The road map to be followed for the success of our party has been clarified both in these meetings and in the discussions held in the commissions and boards of our party."

The commission added: "As a result of all these discussions, our Central Consensus Commission submitted a proposal to Ms. Pervin Buldan and Mr. Mithat Sancar to be co-chair candidates. Ms. Buldan and Mr. Sancar accepted the proposal of our commission."

The commission thanked co-chair Sezai Temelli "who has been working in different tasks and positions in our party since its establishment, making great contributions to the struggle for democracy."
