HDP announces plan of actions to support MP Güven on hunger strike

A busy plan of action has been planned to support HDP Hakkary deputy Leyla Güven who is on hunger strike.

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) has sent information about the hunger strike carried out by HDP deputy and DTK co-chair Leyla Güven to deputies, Party Council members, provincial and district organizations, women and youth assemblies.

The information note explained that Leyla Güven has gone on hunger strike to protest against the isolation regime imposed on Kurdish people’s leader, Abdullah Öcalan.

The note also gave a brief summary of how Öcalan was captured as a result of an international conspiracy and how for the past two years his family has not been able to visit him, while lawyers have been denied visit permission since 2011.

The note pointed out that the attack on Öcalan is actually an attack on the future of all peoples of the Middle East, not just Kurds, adding; “The dominant powers that had drawn the borders of the Middle East a century ago, launched an attack on all the structures and ideologies that could be a hope for peoples as they tried to redesign the Middle East a century later. Mr. Öcalan’s philosophy that bases on Democratic Middle East Union and common struggle of peoples, has also been a target of this attack.”

The HDP note continued; “The attacks on democratic politics and our party are the product of this approach. The notion of monotheistic nation and its liberal ideology does not give the right to life for any option inspired by the revolutionary and democratic struggle of the peoples. The creators of the İmralı system are the global imperialist powers”.

The HDP saluted the action taken by Hakkari deputy Leyla Güven for Mr Öcalan and said “it is a justifiable action and her demand is our demand”.

The statement continued: “The attacks on the democratic and humanitarian values with the state of emergency, the arrests of academics, journalists, intellectuals and the opposition, and the appointment of trustees began with isolation. During the meetings with Mr. Öcalan, the messages he conveyed were of peace and freedom of the peoples. The voice of peace has been silenced with isolation”.

The statement insisted: “For this we say; Leyla Güven is right! Isolation must end! Her demand is our demand. The total isolation imposed on Öcalan should end immediately”.

This call is meant, said the HDP, “not only for the Kurdish people, but for all democratic forces. Mr. Öcalan's thoughts are a strong yeast that holds the peoples together. The attack is not only against the will of the Kurdish people, but against the will of all peoples. The left, socialist and democratic forces must fight against the isolation for the future of our peoples”.

In this context, the HDP has planned a series of actions to support Leyla Güven.
