HDP Amed co-chairs imprisoned

The Turkish regime’s political genocide operations against the Kurdish people and their elected representatives continue unabated.

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Amed provincial co-chairs Hülya Alökmen Uyanık and Zeyyat Ceylan, as well as Yenişehir district co-chairs Remziye Sızıcı and Kasım Kaya were taken into custody on October 22. The arrests came after the HDP offices in the city were stormed in the scope of an investigation launched by Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

After eight days of detention, the detainees have been referred to the prosecutor’s office today.

Amed provincial co-chairs Hülya Alökmen Uyanık and Zeyyat Ceylan were reportedly detained on the grounds that Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan’s posters that were hung in the central Sur district had been prepared in the provincial branch office.

After their referral to courthouse, Uyanık and Ceylan were remanded in custody for alleged “membership to an illegal organisation” while Yenişehir district co-chairs Remziye Sızıcı and Kasım Kaya were released on condition of judicial control.
