HDP: Alevis threatened, AKP-MHP government protects perpetrators

The HDP drew attention to the fact that Alevis were threatened with death and emphasized that the AKP-MHP government is actually protecting the perpetrators and using hate language.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Peoples and Beliefs Commission co-chairperson Tülay Hatimoğulları issued a written statement on the threats against Alevis.

The statement said: "Threats, insults and attacks against the Alevis are increasing. ‘Death to the Alevis' was written on the garden wall of an apartment building in Pendik, Istanbul, and a cross was placed on it."

Emphasizing that "those who carried out such threatening attacks against Alevis are not subjected to an effective investigation, and therefore continue their attacks", Hatimoğulları added: "Politicalized judicial decisions that evaluate the insults against Alevis within the scope of freedom of thought also encourage the attackers.

In a country where even the murderers of the massacres of Maras, Çorum and Sivas were not punished, the threats against Alevis continue to increase because of the tolerance shown on all kinds of hate crimes and insults against Alevis.”

Hatimoğulları continued: “The most important reason for the increase in verbal, written and physical attacks against Alevi citizens is the discriminatory political language used and the bland reaction of the public authority of the one-man regime against hate crimes.

We are waiting for the attackers of Pendik to be found immediately and effectively judged, and we condemn the attack once again in the harshest way."
