Hakkari and Nusaybin co-mayors taken into custody

Hakkari and Nusaybin municipal buildings were raided within the scope of the ongoing political genocide against Kurds. Co-mayors of Hakkari Municipality, Cihan Karaman, and Nusaybin Municipality, Semire Nergiz and Ferhat Kut, were taken into custody.

Political genocide operations in Northern Kurdistan increased after the Turkish state's invasion of Northern and Eastern Syria.

Early this morning politicians were targeted in Nusaybin, Mardin. Following home raids carried out by a number of special police teams, Nusaybin Municipality co-mayors Semire Nergiz and Ferhat Kut were taken into custody.

The Crisis Center established by the Municipality was also raided by police who battered the people in charge. Police officers broke the nose of a municipal employee, while another worker suffered injuries on his chin. HDP's Mehmet Emin Alkan, member of the Nusaybin Municipality Council, was detained.

In addition, the city council premises were also raided. The detained co-presidents and councilors were taken to the Nusaybin District Police Department. The detainees will be taken to the TEM Branch of the Mardin Provincial Security Directorate.

In Hakkari, police raided the city council and the house of co-mayor Cihan Karaman who was subsequently taken into custody.
