French defense minister visits Iraq

The Ministry’s statement said: "Florence Parly is going to Iraq with a simple message: The struggle must continue. The determination of France has not changed."

French Defense Minister Florence Parly started a two-day visit to Iraq. It was reported that the visit is organised within the framework of the fight against ISIS.

In a written statement issued by the French Defense Ministry, it was stated that the visit, which started on Thursday, will last two days.

The statement said: "The French Defense Minister insists that ISIS remains a serious threat that we should continue to oppose. French air strikes against ISIS isolated points have increased in recent months."

Minister Parly said: "While the region, like the rest of the world, is fighting the coronavirus pandemic, the fight against terrorism maintains its urgency." She noted that although ISIS was militarily defeated, it has not yet disappeared.

Defense Minister Parly added: "(ISIS) takes advantage of the situation and reorganizes itself."

The Ministry’s statement said: "Florence Parly is going to Iraq with a simple message: The struggle must continue. The determination of France has not changed."

During her visit, Minister Parly will meet with Iraqi President Berhem Salih, Prime Minister Mustafa al Kazımi and Defense Minister Juma Enad Al Juburi.
