“Freedom for Öcalan” demos in Lucerne and Dortmund

In Lucerne and Dortmund there have been protests for the freedom of the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan and the defense of the autonomy of the Shengal region.

Daily actions for the freedom of the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan and against the attack on the self-government of the Shengal (Sinjar) region in northern Iraq take place in many places in Europe. The actions are mainly carried by the youth movements TCŞ (Revolutionary Youth Movement) and TEKO-JIN (Movement of Fighting Young Women) and take place within the campaign "End to Isolation, Occupation and Fascism - Time for Freedom" initiated by the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union).

Demo in Lucerne

In the Swiss city of Lucerne, young activists gathered behind a banner with the inscription "Together for Uprising" and chanted "Long live Ocalan" and "Long live international solidarity".

Dortmund: "Death to treason - Long live the resistance of Shengal"

Activists from TCŞ and TEKO-JIN gathered in Dortmund to protest against the attacks on the self-government of the Shengal region by the KDP and the Iraqi central government. The activists set up an information stand at the main station, read out statements and showed pictures of flags of the defense units of Shengal, YBŞ and YJŞ.

The KDP and the Iraqi central government plan to dissolve these defense units. This would mean leaving the Yazidi population once again defenseless against attacks. The KDP had already disarmed the Yazidi population in 2014 and then withdrew without a fight before the ISIS invasion. The KDP is therefore considered one of the main perpetrators of the ISIS genocide in the Shengal region. The protesters strongly condemned this policy and repeatedly chanted "Death to treason - long live the resistance of Shengal".
