"Freedom for Öcalan" actions in Germany

On the occasion of the International Human Rights Day, protests against the fascism of the Turkish state and the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan took place in several cities in Germany.

Demonstrations and rallies in several cities in Germany called for the release of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan. The occasion was the International Human Rights Day on December 10. The nationwide umbrella organization KON-MED had called for protests against Turkish fascism under the slogan "Fascism is not an opinion, but a crime".

Stuttgart

A rally promoted by the "Alliance of Democratic Forces" took place on Rotebühlplatz in Stuttgart. The participants demanded the lifting of Abdullah Öcalan's isolation and protested against the fascist AKP/MHP regime in Turkey. The activists called on the Council of Europe's Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and the EU to act. Parallel to the speeches, a screen provided visual information about the importance of Öcalan for a peaceful solution of the Kurdish question and the problems in Turkey.

Kiel

A similar rally took place in Kiel where participants demanded "Freedom for Öcalan, status for Kurdistan" and declared their solidarity with the political prisoners in Turkey who want to enforce the end of Öcalan's isolation with a hunger strike. The action was briefly tense when police tried to ban pictures of the Kurdish leader.

Cologne

In Cologne, on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day, a rally under the slogan "United Against Turkish Fascism" took place in front of the Roman-Germanic Museum. Gayana Punnyamoorthy gave a speech for the People's Council of Tamil Eelam and declared solidarity with the Kurdish liberation struggle. Other speeches were made in the name of Köln Alarm, YKJ-E and the Kurdish youth movements TCŞ and TEKO-JIN. The police in Cologne also provoked the crowd and wanted to break up the rally because of Öcalan’s pictures, which led to a large protest.

In the evening, a demonstration of the Kurdish youth movement took place at the cathedral monastery, protesting against the federal German support of the Erdogan regime.

Saarbrucken

A Human Rights Day rally was also held in Saarbrucken in protest at the Turkish state's human rights violations in Kurdistan and the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan. Speeches criticized the fact that the EU has once again prevented viable sanctions against Turkey. The German government was urged to end its cooperation with the Erdogan regime.

Darmstadt

At a rally in Darmstadt, acticits demanded "Freedom for Öcalan, status for Şengal". Under the slogan "Fascism is not an opinion, but a crime," the human rights violations of the Turkish state were denounced.

Hamburg

A demonstration for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan took place in Hamburg. The demonstration started in Altona and continued till Sternschanze.
