Fîraz Dağ commemorated on the anniversary of his martyrdom in Raqqa

Director and journalist Fîraz Dağ (Mehmet Aksoy), who was martyred in Raqqa, was commemorated by his comrades, friends and family at his grave on the anniversary of his martyrdom.

Director, writer and journalist Mehmet Aksoy (Fîraz Dağ), who was martyred in Raqqa on 26 September 2017 while working in the YPG Press Unit, was commemorated by his comrades, friends and family at London Highgate Cemetery.

The commemoration, organised by the Revolutionary Youth Movement (TCŞ) and Jiyan Women's Assembly, was attended by Hesen Muhammed Elî, Head of Public Relations Department of the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD), journalist Mark Campbell and many people.

The commemoration started with a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs of the Kurdistan Freedom Struggle. Flowers and roses were placed on Fîraz Dağ's grave, after which a speech was made on behalf of Kinda Zin Youth Commune.

Stating that every morning they started the day with Firaz's hopes and dreams, the Youth Commune said, “It is up to us, his comrades, to build the world that Fîraz believed in. Every evening, we look at the brightest star and promise him; we will build the new life that Rêber Apo (Leader Abdullah Öcalan) shows us with great effort. We will realise Fîraz's dream in metropolises, in the most impassable mountains, in deserts parched with thirst, in the middle of Europe. This is our promise to him.”

Speaking after, MSD Representative Hesen Muhammed Elî stated that they once again bowed respectfully in front of the memory of Martyr Fîraz Dağ and said, “If we have a life today, if we have our heads up and have an identity, we owe it to our martyrs. We consider it a moral duty to realise the ideals of our martyrs. In Rojava, the dreams of our martyrs continue to be realised. Today we breathe thanks to our martyrs and we taste freedom thanks to them. Our martyrs became a bridge for the unity of Kurdistan. Today, if we have the right to do politics and have a say in the world, this has come about thanks to the values created by our martyrs. We promise our martyrs that we will realise their dreams and liberate Leader Apo and Kurdistan.”

Speaking on behalf of the Kurdish People's Assembly, Ercan Akbal stated that Fîraz Dağ left a great legacy of freedom and an important legacy in building life in the line of democratic modernity against capitalist modernity and in organising a moral society. Akbal stated that they will struggle on the path of the martyrs until Kurdistan and Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan is freed and concluded his speech with the slogans “Şehîd Namirin” (Martyrs are immortal) and “Bijî Serok Apo” (Long Live Leader Öcalan).
