Fighting for oil among Iraqi forces in Daquq

Hashd al-Shaabi Commander Elî Gazi in charge of the oil fields in Daquq has been removed from duty on charges of oil theft.

In the wake of the Iraqi army and Hashd al-Shaabi forces taking over Kirkuk and the disputed territories on October 16, 2017, the fight for profiteering continues among the groups.

Iraqi federal police have carried out an operation on the oil wells under control of Hashd al-Shaabi Commander Elî Gazi in Kirkuk’s Daquq district. Reports say Elî Gazi has been stealing oil extracted from the wells in Daquq. Elî Gazi was removed from duty and an investigation has reportedly been launched against him.

After the Iraqi forces took over Daquq, some oil fields in the area were taken from Gazi Talabani and handed over to Hashd al-Shaabi’s Elî Gazi.

The Hashd al-Shaabi Commander Elî Gazi is reportedly responsible for the murders of many Kurds and pillaging of many homes during the attacks on Daquq and Kirkuk.
