FED-KURD: Halil Şen buried in his hometown under police harassment

Kurdish activist Halil Şen was buried in his home village in North Kurdistan. The Turkish police only admitted family members to the funeral; photos and filming were prohibited.

Halil Şen was buried in his home village in North Kurdistan, said the Kurdish association FED-KURD. The Kurdish activist immolate himself in front the Saxon state parliament in Dresden on 12 February 2021 to protest the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan in the Turkish prison island of Imrali. A ceremony for Şen was celebrated in Dresden on Wednesday and then his remains were sent to Turkey.

FED-KURD reminded that Halil Şen was born in 1971 in Ludê in Eruh, province Siirt. Şen’s relatives received the coffin on Thursday in Batman. Only family members were allowed to attend the funeral. The Turkish security forces did not allowed photos to be taken.

FED-KURD said in a statement: “The Kurdish people will not let this attitude deter them from their justified and dignified struggle. We stand behind our martyrs. The struggle will continue until the Kurdish people get their rights and Kurdistan is free. This is the only way we can do justice to Heval Halil and his action.”
