Farewell to journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin martyred in Rojava

Thousands of people in North-East Syria bid farewell to three fighters and journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin, who were murdered in a Turkish drone attack on 19 December.

Thousands of people attended a farewell ceremony at the Delîl Sarûxan Cemetery of Martyrs in Qamishlo for journalists Cihan Bilgin and Nazım Daştan, who were martyred in a Turkish UCAV attack in Rojava, YPJ fighter Tulay Mihemed (Avzem Çiya), Commando Forces members Bîlal Ibrahîm (Diyar Qamişlo) and Luqman El Xemîs (Şam Qamişlo), who were martyred in the battle of Tishrin Dam.


Addressing the crowd, Şemsîxan Gulo, member of the Cizre Canton Assembly of Martyrs' Families, said, “Leader Abdullah Öcalan's ideas are yielding their results with the resistance of heroes, the Revolutionary People's War, and the solidarity of the people with the military forces. Today, we bid farewell to our martyrs who fought on the battle fronts, who announced the truth of the peoples' revolution to the whole world, who wrote heroic epics.”

Speaking on behalf of the Qamishlo Military Council, Nezîr Sofî said that each martyr is a new pledge in the struggle to protect the gains of the revolution.

Member of the Islamic Democratic Congress Mihemed El Zaxurani said: “Martyrdom is the greatest honour. Today, our sons and daughters are martyred for the defence of their country and people.”

Speaking on behalf of the Free Press Union (YRA), Ekrem Berekat, an ANHA employee, said that the people of Northern and Eastern Syria have paid a great price for 14 years, and that the values of a free and democratic society have been preserved with these prices.

Stating that YRA also paid a price to announce the revolution to the world, Berekat said, “We reiterate our promise to the martyrs of the Free Press. We will continue to announce the revolution of the people to the whole world.”

The bodies of freedom fighters Avzem Ciya, Diyar Qamişlo and Şam Qamişlo were buried in Şehid Delîl Sarûxan Cemetery of Martyrs.

The bodies of journalists Cihan Bilgin and Nazım Daştan will be sent to Northern Kurdistan as per the request of their families.
