FARC denounced plan to kill its leaders

FARC senator Carlo Lozada denounced plan to assassinate the leaders of the party.

FARC Senator, Julián Gallo, also known by his war name, Carlos Antonio
Lozada, denounced via twitter a plan to assassinate the leaders of the FARC party.

The party is composed mostly of former guerrillas of the FARC-EP who signed, in November 2016 the Havana Final Peace Agreement with the Colombian government led by former President Juan Manuel Santos.

The public complaint by Lozada also included the filing of a legal complaint with the General Prosecutor's Office, accompanied by evidence.

The incident occurred in the midst of a deep crisis of the Peace Agreement, following the repeated accusations by the FARC of the government's failure to comply with the Agreement, in addition to the numerous murder of former-guerrillas, reincorporated into the civil life, which has reached 140 dead.

The FARC has complied in a timely manner with its part of the Agreement, however the repeated assassinations of its members, political breaches and socio-economic reforms, added to the constant legal insecurity has caused some of its leaders and intermediate figures have distanced themselves from the process.

The most recent and mediatic case has been that of former FARC commander Jesús Santrich, who was on provisional release after spending more than a year in jail on accusations by the US authorities, and that last week "disappeared" and did not show up in court, which led the authorities to issue an international arrest warrant against him.
