Families apply again for a visit to Imrali

The relatives of the prisoners isolated on the prison island of Imrali have again applied for a visit to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in Bursa.

On the prison island of Imrali political prisoners Abdullah Ocalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş are in total isolation. Surrounded by thousands of soldiers, they are held in a worldwide unique isolation prison off the coast of Bursa. Especially in the case of Abdullah Öcalan, the isolation serves to sever the connection between the Kurdish leader and the people. Lawyers and relatives have been fighting against the isolation for decades.

On Friday, Abdullah Öcalan's lawyer, together with Öcalan's brother, Mehmet Öcalan, again applied for a visit. The relatives of the other prisoners also applied to the public prosecutor's office to obtain a visit permit. While visits to lawyers are almost never approved, family visits to the island are also only approved arbitrarily at large intervals.
