Events in Athens as part of global days of action for ‘Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan’

Events were organised in Athens as part of the global days of action for the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

On the anniversary of the global campaign launched a year ago demanding freedom for Abdullah Öcalan and a political solution to the Kurdish question, days of freedom for Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan are being organised all over the world.

Panel at the Rocinante Union Festival

During the Rocinante Union's annual festival, a panel discussion on the impact of fascism and right-wing populism on the working class and labour movements was held at the Embros Theatre. The panel discussed Abdullah Öcalan's analyses of capitalist modernity and the need to build a new internationalism within the framework of democratic confederalism.

A speaker on behalf of the ‘Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, a Political Solution to the Kurdish Question’ campaign called for participation in the march and other events in Athens on 11 October as part of the Days of Action.

Stand at the Nea Aristera Festival

At the annual Nea Aristera (New Left) Festival, a stand was set up as part of the days of action for freedom for Abdullah Öcalan.

A speaker on behalf of the Democratic Kurdistan Cultural Centre spoke about the ongoing imprisonment and isolation of Öcalan in Imrali Island prison and the campaign for his freedom. He called for participation in the central demonstration in Athens on 11 October and other events as part of the Global Days of Action.

Seminar

On 5 October, a seminar was held at the Altai Social Centre in Athens with speakers from five different organisations.

A speech was delivered on behalf of the Kurdistan Democratic Cultural Centre at the seminar where the struggles in Kurdistan and Palestine were discussed under the title of ‘World War III: Democratic Nation as a solution to the global crisis’. The speech pointed out that if the campaign for the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan succeeds, this will be the success of the oppressed and exploited peoples of the Middle East and the world, especially Kurdistan, against fascism. The participants called for participation in a joint conference to be held with the Athens Bar Association on 9 October, which will be attended by a lawyer from Asrin Law Office, and in the central march to be staged in Athens on 11 October.
