Europe-wide demonstrations in solidarity with hunger strikers

Demonstrations were held in Lausanne, Bern, Marseille and Brussels to express solidarity to HDP Hakkari MP, Leyla Güven and the hunger strikers in Europe, Turkey and Kurdistan.

Kurds living in Europe continue their actions to support and solidarity to the hunger strikers demanding the end of isolation against Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Demonstrations were held in Lausanne, Bern Marseille and Brussels to express solidarity to HDP Hakkari MP, Leyla Güven and the hunger strikers in Europe, Turkey and Kurdistan.

Lausanne

As HDP Hakkari MP, Leyla Güven, reached the 70th day of her hunger strike demanding the end of the isolation regime against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, activists held a demonstration in front of the Parliament of the Canton of Vaud in Lausanne, Switzerland.

While activists told passersby the reason for the action and why the HDP deputy is on hunger strike in Amed prison, a delegation was received by Swiss MPs from various parties.

The delegation met the secretary of Vaud Canton, and reminded that indeed the source of the Kurdish problem is to be found in the Lausanne agreement signed after First World War.

After the meeting the delegation said the encounter was warm and the general secretary conveyed feelings of solidarity.

The delegation and activists underlined that the hunger strikers’ health situation is worsening. Not only Leyla Güven is have reached a critical point, but concerns are growing also for the health of hunger strikers in both Europe and the prisons in Turkey and Kurdistan where hundreds of PKK and PAJK prisoners are fasting.

The demonstration was visited by several deputies, among them were chair of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group Valerie Induni, chair of the United Left Movement Parliamentary Group, Jean Michael Dolivo, Green Party Parliamentary Group chair Vassilis Venizelos. They all expressed their feelings of solidarity.

Jean Michael Dolivo, speaking for the United Left Movement, called for sensitivity and added that Leyla Güven was in danger of dying.

Dolivo also underlined that the Kurdish issue is not only an issue regarding Kurds but all international forces.

Bern

The Bern Mizgin Women's Assembly and the Biel Arin Mirkan Women's Commune promoted a demonstration in Bern.

The demo took place at the central train station in Bern. Signatures were collected by activists within the framework of the signature campaign initiated to be forwarded to the Council of Europe and the European Parliament.

Arbane group and group LeLo ended the demonstration with their music.

Marseille

An action was promoted by Tevgera Ciwanên Şoreşger activists in Marseille, France. Traffic in Bel du Maiden road was cut off by young people, chanting slogans for 35 minutes.

Activists then resumed their march and ended the demonstration reading a press release on the hunger strike in Turkey, Kurdistan and Europe, to demand the end of the isolation against Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Brussels

A demonstration in support to HDP Hakkari MP, Leyla Güven and the hunger strikers in Europe, Turkey and Kurdistan was also organised in Brussels. Signatures was collected for the petition demanding European institutions to act.
