Emine Şenyaşar’s vigil for justice on its 39th day

For 39 days now, Emine Şenyaşar has been sitting in front of the courthouse in Urfa demanding justice for her family members murdered by relatives and bodyguards of AKP deputy Halil Yıldız.

Emine Şenyaşar continues her sit-in action outside the courthouse in Urfa city from dawn to dusk every day. For 39 days now, the 70-year-old woman's vigil has continued with a placard reading "Justice". The protest is particularly arduous during Ramadan, because Emine Şenyaşar is fasting. This means that from sunrise to sunset she takes neither liquid nor food.

In front of her, Şenyaşar shows pictures of her family members killed in June 2018 by bodyguards and relatives of AKP deputy Ibrahim Halil Yıldız: her husband Hacı Esvet and her two sons Celal and Adil Şenyaşar. A third son, Fadıl Şenyaşar, who defended himself and his family, was sentenced to 37 years in prison on flimsy murder charges.
