Demonstration for Öcalan’s freedom in Zurich

Kurdish youth staged a demonstration demanding freedom for Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan who is held in aggravated isolation by the Turkish state.

Revolutionary Youth’s Union of Switzerland organized a demonstration at the Helvetiaplatz in Zurich to demand freedom for Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan under the slogan “Let’s rise up and break the isolation”.

Demonstrators who were also supported by revolutionary movements from Turkey carried banners of Öcalan and flags of PKK (Kurdistan Worker’s Party) and KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union), chanting “No Life Without the Leader”, “Long Live Leader Öcalan”.

The demonstration began with a minute’s silence, after which Dersim Koçgiri spoke on behalf of the Revolutionary Youth’s Union of Switzerland.

Koçgiri said they have launched a new campaign for Öcalan’s freedom as part of the “Serî hilde” (Rise Up) campaign, and that their actions will continue spreading.

Recalling that the Kurdish leader is held in aggravated isolation for years, Koçgiri said; “They want to sever us from our Leader. We will not accept this fascist treatment. We will never give up on our struggle unless the Leader is free, and we will increase our actions across Europe.”

Following the speech, the demonstration ended with slogans.
