‘Democratic Confederalism and Kurds’ discussed at several events in Galicia

Within the scope of the campaign for Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, panels and seminars were organised by young people in the Galicia region and ‘Democratic Confederalism and Kurds’ were discussed.

Numerous events are being organised in many parts of the world on the occasion of the first anniversary of the international campaign ‘Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, a political solution to the Kurdish question’ that was launched globally on 10 October 2023.

Within the scope of the campaign, a well-attended seminar was held in Galicia, Spain by the students of the Faculty of History at the University of Santiago de Compostela with the participation of Solidaridad Obrera Trade Union, Ardora Publishing House and Solidarity with Palestine Group.

In the seminar, evaluations were made on Kurdistan and the struggle led by the Kurdish freedom movement in the Middle East. The importance of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's democratic solution paradigm and the third way proposal in the world war process was expressed, as well as determination to expand the campaign.

The seminar was followed by a statement by the university students who emphasised that the attacks and oppression against the Kurdish people and the Kurdish People's Leader are directed against all peoples and identities who want freedom.

Another event in the Galicia Region was organised in the city of Vigo. In the seminar promoted by the Defend Kurdistan Initiative and youth organisations, the Öcalan’s paradigm of ‘Democratic Confederalism’ was discussed. It was explained how the Rojava revolution, in which the Kurdish leader's paradigm came to life, was organised on the axis of ‘radical democracy’ and how the transition to a women's libertarian, egalitarian and ecological system was achieved.

It was also emphasised that the Turkish state's isolation of Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı Island Prison has no moral and legal place and that the system is afraid of the ideas of the Kurdish leader.
