Demo in front of the Danish Parliament calls for urgent action for Rojava

Kurds and their friends gathered in front of the Danish Parliament in protest at the invasion attacks against Rojava and called on the government to urgently protect Rojava.

Kurds in Denmark and their friends gathered in front of the Danish Parliament on Thursday and staged a demonstration in protest at the invading Turkish state's attacks on North and East Syria and the isolation of Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan in Turkey.

‘We will raise our struggle in all areas of life’

An activist speaking on behalf of the demonstrators said, “We have been crying out for freedom, peace and solution for 50 years and we will raise our struggle in all areas of life until our leader is free and the status of Kurdistan is recognized. The Kurds, the components living in Kurdistan and everyone who calls themselves human beings should take responsibility against genocide. A people is being held in captivity in the person of Leader Öcalan in İmralı, and all kinds of massacre and genocide policies are being carried out. It is both a national duty and a humanitarian duty to stand against the fascist Turkish state, which carries out reckless attacks on Rojava, taking advantage of the silence of the imperialist balance powers in the Middle East, the European Union and international public opinion.”

A speaker on behalf of the PYD said: “It is the urgent duty of the international community to keep Rojava alive and embrace it. We appeal to the Danish government, all humanitarian and democratic institutions and the competent international authorities; they must urgently stand up for Rojava.”

Speaking on behalf of the Danish Socialist People's Party (SF), Serdar Benli stated that his party will always stand by the people of Rojava and condemned the attacks of Erdoğan and his gangs.

‘We stand side by side with the Kurds’

Søren Søndergaard, MP for Enhedslisten (Red Green Coalition Party), spoke on behalf of the Union Party parliamentary group and said: “With the fall of the Assad regime last weekend, we began to doubt our faith in humanism after seeing the images of prisoners who had been tortured for years in Syrian prisons. Likewise, we began to doubt our faith in humanism after seeing the world's silence towards the people of Rojava, who are being attacked by jihadist groups. We do not understand the silence of the international community in the face of these attacks against the people of Rojava, who make their lives a shield against ISIS mercenaries. Therefore, as the Red Green Coalition Party (Enhedslisten), we stand side by side with the Kurds today to break this silence. Just as we stood by Rojava yesterday, we will continue to do so in the future.”

MP Søndergaard said that they will submit a no-confidence motion on Rojava to the meeting of the Danish Parliament on 17 December.
