Demo for Öcalan in Brussels

Kurds are taking to the streets all around the world demanding an end to the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan.

The Kurdish Women’s Movement in Europe (TJK-E) and the Kurdish Community Centre in Belgium (NAV-BEL) organised a demonstration in front of the Council of Europe to denounce the isolation regime executed against Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan after Thursday’s media reports of a fire on the Imralı Island where he is held together with Veysi Aktaş, Ömer Hayri Konar and Hamili Yıldırım.

Displaying images of Öcalan and a banner reading “Isolation is a crime against humanity, end the Imralı torture”, demonstrators called on the Council of Europe’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) to act immediately for the Kurdish leader.

A delegation representing the crowd met with officials who said they would convey the demonstrators’ demand to the CPT headquarters in Strasbourg.
