HDP co-chairs Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş made a statement to the press in the wake of the lifting of parliamentary immunities, a “coup” proposal introduced by the AKP and approved by the CHP and MHP on the basis of an anti-Kurdish alliance.

Demirtaş, speaking here after Yüksekdağ, strongly criticised the constitutional amendment and described it as a coup targeting the people's will. He underlined that; “None of our colleagues will accept the request of prosecutors and courts to testify. Nobody should expect us to accept this coup which imposes an open dictatorship. Today, two and a half parties came together and approved this coup."

HDP co-chair underlined that there will be no fair trial as long as a parliament, judiciary and press ruled by the Palace continue to exist. Demirtaş underlined that; “We will not go to the court voluntarily. If they will forcibly take us, they should make preparations in advance, for detaining, arresting or capturing us. Everyone should know that we will not be an instrument to this game.”

Demirtaş also pointed out that they will stand behind the people's will to the end and never surrender to the Palace, adding; “The struggle has just begun.”
