Dem Party calls for freedom for Öcalan at Amed Provincial Congress

DEM Party Co-Chairperson Tülay Hatimoğulları called for the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan to be lifted immediately and his physical freedom to be ensured.

The Amed (Diyarbakır) Provincial Organization of DEM Party (Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party) convened at the 2nd Extraordinary Congress on Sunday with the slogan "Again for Freedom".

Among those attending the congress were DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları, members of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), Free Women's Movement (TJA), Peace Mothers' Assembly, Association of Assistance, Solidarity, Unity and Culture with the Families of the Disappeared in the Cradle of Civilizations (MEBYA-DER), MED Federation of Legal and Solidarity Associations with the Families of the Detained and Convicted (MED TUHAD-FED), Association of Assistance with the Families of the Convicted (TUHAY-DER) and hundreds of people. The hall was colored with banners and slogans specially prepared for the congress.

Speaking at the congress, Amed MP Serhat Eren emphasized the lack of a solution to the Kurdish question and said, "For war, we need tears, cannons and rifles. For peace, we need conscience, empathy and love. Someone like those who started this war must start peace. The person who will ensure this is Mr. Abdullah Öcalan."

DEM Party Provincial Co-Chairs Pınar Sakık Tekin and Abbas Şahin, DBP Provincial Co-Chair Sultan Yaray were among the speakers at the congress.

Tulay Hatimoğulları also made a speech and said, "Today, Mr. Öcalan has not been allowed to meet with his family or lawyers for more than 3 years. In 106 prisons, hunger strikes have been launched for a peaceful solution to the Kurdish question. The isolation of Mr. Öcalan should be lifted immediately, and his physical freedom should be ensured so that we can take bigger steps to resolve this issue and the hunger strikes do not cause more suffering."

Drawing attention to the upcoming local elections scheduled for March 31 and the fraud that has already started, Tülay Hatimoğulları stated: '' Today, our election commission is following the work carried out by the AKP government, which is engaged in voter transportation. Objections are being made against it. We are the party that won almost all the municipalities in Amed. With a population of 2 million, Amed stands as one. The model we will put forward here will be a model for all municipalities. Any city, be it Bitlis or Hakkari, will be watching and listening here. The first goal is to win the election completely. For this, we must raise the struggle to the highest level. The second is to prevent the appointment of trustees. For this, our people should act with such a consciousness that we should build a wall against the trustees and prevent them from entering these municipalities. With this will, we will expel all trustees.”

At the end of the congress, Pınar Sakık Tekin and Abbas Şahin were elected as DEM Party Amed Provincial Co-chairs.
