The Democratic Regions Party (DBP) condemned the call for the assassination of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani by İsmail Hakkı Pekin, former Chief of Intelligence of the Turkish General Staff, on a Turkish TV programme last night.
In a statement on its X account, DBP pointed out that the assassination call is a manifestation of political immorality as well as an effort to create chaos in the region and said, “Such dangerous and provocative discourses are the continuation of policies aimed at sowing the seeds of enmity and war between peoples.”
DBP recalled Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan's words ‘If necessary, we will fire one or two missiles, and we will say that they were fired from Syria’ in order to bring Turkey into a war against Syria.
“The state mind, which has tried to carry out an annexation in Rojava in the recent past, almost confesses its reality with assassination calls today. The people of the Kurdistan region are heading towards an election that will determine their own fate, and this election directly concerns the future of the occupation there. We know very well that the AKP-MHP government plans to intervene in the elections in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region through dirty alliances and agreements and to make the election results serve its occupation policies. The public should know that the perpetrator of all kinds of provocations towards the elections to be held in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region on 20 October is none other than the political mind that publicly calls for massacres against the Kurds and justifies it,” DBP said.
Emphasising that Pekin’s call is the voice of the dark powers that want to fuel conflicts in the region, the statement continued: “In any democratic society, assassination proposals cannot and should not be a part of political discussions. It is necessary to stand against this dirty mentality more strongly than ever. We would like to emphasise once again that Turkey should abandon the policy of assassinations. As the DBP, we do not accept this mentality and such fascist discourses. We are against all kinds of attacks and provocations aimed at usurping the right of our peoples in the region to live together in peace. The DBP, together with our peoples, will continue to stand firmly against these dangerous discourses and dark mentality.”
