Court adjourns trial for murder of Agos editor Hrant Dink

The trial of 76 defendants accused of having had a role in the murder of Agos Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Hrant Dink was adjourned to 17 December.

The hearing of the case in which 76 defendants, 4 of whom are in prison, are tried for the killing of Agos Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Hrant Dink was held today.

Some of the defendants and their lawyers as well as lawyers for Dink’s family were present at the hearing held at the Istanbul 14th High Criminal Court in Çağlayan. The hearing, monitored by a large number of journalists, started after the identification procedures.

The defendants and his lawyers requested time to prepare the defense to the prosecution's opinion on the merits, and the court accepted the request and adjourned the hearing to 17 December.

In his 68-page opinion, the prosecutor demanded that the case file of 13 defendants be separated, the charges against one defendant be dropped as he lost his life. In addition, he demanded 11 defendants to be acquitted of all charges and 53 defendants to be sentenced for various charges.

The prosecutor has argued that the murder was committed by the "FETÖ", which is held responsible for the coup attempt on 15 July 2016.
