Colombian Special Jurisdiction for Peace is law

Colombian President Ivan Duque has signed the Statutory Law of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace, after his objections were rejected.

After a tortuous road and a blow for the governance of President Iván Duque in the Congress, the Statutory Law of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) came into force on Thursday after the signature of the president.

Six objections made by the president to the Statutory Law of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace, considered by many as the column of the Peace Agreement, which administratively regulates the transitional court, were defeated in Congress and the Constitutional Court.

The presidential signature follows the Constitutional Court's study of the debate on objections in Congress.

In summary, the high court determined that, in effect and as defended by the "pro-peace" bench, the objections to the JEP were unacceptable.
