Civil disobedience by German leftists for Afrin

A group of German leftists held a civil disobedience protest in the Social Democratic Party’s (SPD) Bielefeld offices to draw attention to the Turkish state’s attacks on Afrin.

Interventionistische Linke (Interventionist Left) members have condemned the Turkish army’s use of German made tanks in the attack against Afrin.

The group demands Merkel’s coalition partner SPD to take action for Afrin, and put up YPG and YPJ flags in the building. A banner that read “No to Turkey’s war, German weapons are party to the massacre in Afrin and Kurds are pressured in Germany” was also put up in the SPD building.

The banner called on the SPD as well: “Enough SPD, show solidarity with Rojava and work to lift the PKK ban” YPG flags remained up for a long time in the protest yesterday evening.

Interventionistische Linke issued a statement over their social media accounts and said: “The Turkish state’s attacks against Afrin are attacks against democracy, women’s liberation movement, the right to self determination, in short, against all of us.”

Another protest against the SPD was held in Hannover where Interventionistische Linke members covered the entrance of the SPD offices with posters supporting the Afrin resistance.

The posters said, “YPG has been the most effective against ISIS gangs, our solidarity with Kurdish comrades will continue”.
