Bones in Christian cemetery left out in the open in Hasankeyf

As demolitions in the historic Hasankeyf Citadel continues, the bones unearthed in the Saha Church Garden which houses a Christian cemetery were left out in the open.

Demolitions in the Dicle Valley and the historic city have picked up pace after the main body construction of the Ilısu Dam, which will flood Hasankeyf, was completed. Demolition with construction equipment is destroying the historic fabric of the Kalyon Area.

A Christian cemetery in the area was also affected by the demolitions. Large numbers of bones presumed to be human were unearthed in digs in the area called the Saha Church Garden. The bones have been left out in the open, and no explanation has been given about them. There have also been no efforts about the bones.

PHOTOGRAPHY BANNED

It is impossible to take any photographs or videos in the district due to State of Emergency conditions. Reports say new units will be brought in for further destruction.
