Ayhan Bilgen released 10 days ago faces arrest warrant

Diyarbakır 6th Heavy Penal Court has issued arrest warrant for HDP MP Ayhan Bilgen upon an appeal against his release from prison 10 days ago.

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Spokesperson and Kars MP Ayhan Bilgen was released on September 8 by the 5th Heavy Penal Court in Amed. Assessing an appeal against Bilgen's release, 6th Heavy Penal Court has issued arrest warrant for the HDP MP.

HDP Spokesperson Ayhan Bilgen was arrested in Amed on January 31 as part of the inquiry launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on HDP Central Committee’s call for Kobanê, under attack by ISIS at the time, on October 2014. The case calls for a sentence of 11 to 25,5 years of prison for Bilgen.

Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court accepted a 64-page indictment that accuses Bilgen with “membership to a terrorist organization”, “openly inciting criminal activity”, “inciting people for illegal demonstrations, forcibly disbanding a gathering/march”.

Bilgen was detained in the scope of an inquiry in Ankara on January 29, was later released in Amed where he was transferred, then detained again and arrested on January 31 on the Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office’s appeal.
