Action for Shengal in Hildesheim

A solidarity rally for the Yazidi self-government in Shengal took place in Hildesheim.

A solidarity action for the Yazidis in the Southern Kurdish region of Shengal was organized in Hildesheim.

Thousands of soldiers from the Iraqi army have been deployed to the region in recent weeks. This development followed the agreement supported by the USA and Turkey and signed in October by the government in Baghdad and the South Kurdistan government. The agreement includes, among other things, the dissolution of the Yazidi self-defense forces. Because of this worrying development, massive protests have been going on in Shengal for weeks. Solidarity actions with the autonomous structures established after the ISIS genocide of 2014 are also taking place in Rojava and in Europe.

The rally in Hildesheim was organized by the Kurdish community center of the Lower Saxony city and took place on Angoulemeplatz. The meeting began with a minute's silence in memory of those who died in the liberation struggle. The agreement reached between Hewlêr and Baghdad without involving the Yazidi population was condemned in the speeches made at the demonstration.

Due to the pandemic, the number of participants was limited and the distance rule was observed.
