5 jailed, 2 detained in political genocide operations

Five people were imprisoned in Ağrı, while two people were detained in Muş and Mersin.

As part of its increasingly ongoing political genocide operations against the Kurdish people and their elected representatives, the Turkish regime forces are arresting dozens of people on daily basis.

AĞRI

11 administrators of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) were taken into custody in Ağrı and its Doğubayazıt, Tutak and Taşlıçay districts. Of the 11 detainees who were referred to court today, 5 were remanded in custody and 6 released on condition of judicial control.

The HDP members who were imprisoned for alleged “membership to a terrorist organisation” are: HDP Ağrı provincial administrators Kazım Aslan and Celal Kürkçü, HDP Doğubayazıt district administrator Faruk Sevkan, Taçlıçay district former co-chair Elif Aslan and HDP Taşlıçay former councillor.

MUŞ

In Malazgirt district of Muş, HDP municipal council member Sema Tekin was detained this morning. Tekin was taken to the district police department.

BATMAN

The hearing of Deniz Kılıç, former Batman representative of the Kurdish daily Azadiya Welat, which was shut down with a statutory decree, was held on Thursday. Kılıç was sentenced to 3 years, 1 month and 15 days in prison for allegedly “spreading terror propaganda”.

MERSİN

Mesopotamia Agency (MA) correspondent Mehmet Fırat Öksüz was taken into custody at the Mersin provincial police department where he had been summoned to give a statement because of his social media posts.
