37 teachers detained in İzmir and two jailed journalists held in isolation

The political genocide practices of the AKP/Palace regime continue both across the country and in prisons.

37 teachers member to Eğitim-Sen Union were detained in İzmir while two journalists jailed in Istanbul are held in isolation.

İZMİR

Anti-terror and special operations police conducted raids on a number of houses in Kemalpaşa district of İzmir today.

37 teachers were detained in the operation which targeted members of the Eğitim-Sen Union.

The teachers were reportedly detained for participation in the work stoppage protest on December 29, 2015, and they were taken to anti-terror branch of police directorate.

ISTANBUL

In the meantime, Diken former editor Tunca Öğreten and BirGün daily accountant Mahir Kanaat, who had been jailed on January 18 after 24 days in custody, have been visited by their families and lawyers today.

Lawyer Ali Deniz Ceylan stated after the visit that Öğreten and Kanaat were held in one-person cells, and they are allowed to see each other at yard during the determined hours from 08:00 to 20:00.

Ceylan conveyed Kanaat and Öğreten's call for their colleagues to not leave them without a letter.
