65 year-old Îdo Seydo Hisên from Sinjar, has returned to Sinjar from a refugee camp in Zakho to join the YBŞ. Îdo Seydo Hisên said: “The YBŞ are the Yazidis’ source of morale and trust. If someone of my age can came and join them, then all Yazidis should be able to join up and fight the ISIS terrorists”.
The YBŞ (Sinjar Resistance Units), which was formed on 3 August 2014, when ISIS launched its savage attack on Mount Sinjar, has become a focus of resistance for the Yazidi people.
He became a fighter at 65
Îdo Seydo Hisên had left Sinjar before the massacre in August, and worked as a shepherd in the mountains near Zakho. Hisên said it was difficult for a Yazidi to get work in South Kurdistan cities such as Duhok, Zakho or Hewler. “They look down on us because of our faith,” he added, stressing that this was the reson for the massacre that took place in August. “If they had seen us as human beings they would not have abandoned us to the mercy of ISIS,” he said.
Îdo Seydo Hisên said his brother had been killed by ISIS and his sister-in-law and two small children had been abducted by the gangs.
‘We will throttle the ISIS fascists in Sinjar’
Îdo Seydo Hisên is still dynamic, despite being 65, and is in the front line in the fight against ISIS. “Sinjar is my home. We will throttle the ISIS fascists here.”
Hisên said the YBŞ are the Yazidis’ source of morale and trust. If someone of my age can came and join them, then all Yazidis should be able to join up and fight the ISIS terrorists”. He called on young people living in refugee camps to return to Sinjar to join the ranks of the YBŞ. Îdo Seydo Hisên concluded by saying that it had been the guerrillas and the YPG which had protected the Yazidis and saved them from dying of hunger. “All Yazidis who have retained their faith know this is the truth. Consequently, it is this force which will liberate Sinjar. I therefore call on all the young people to come to Sinjar and join the struggle,” he added.
