Yazidi youth remembers the victims of August 3 genocide

Yazidi youth organizations made a press statement on the upcoming anniversary of August 3 genocide perpetrated by ISIS in Shengal, Southern Kurdistan four years ago.

ISIS gangs attacked Shengal, the sacred land of Yazidi people on August 3, 2014. Thousands of Yazidis were massacred, hundreds of thousands were displaced, over 5 thousand women and children were abducted and sold in slave markets. Hundreds of these women and children are still in ISIS captivity. The United Nations recognized the mass slaughter as “genocide”.

Members of Yazidi (Êzidî) Youth Union (YCÊ) and Yazidi Young Women’s Union made a statement to the press on Mount Shengal regarding the commemoration events to take place on the fourth anniversary of the genocide.

The statement read by YCÊ member Berzan Şengalî said the following;

“The areas attacked by ISIS on August 3, 2014 were under the control of KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party). ISIS gangs murdered, abducted, wounded and sold thousands of Yazidi people.

We will organize events and actions to remember the genocide victims in Shengal and surrounding towns and villages that were targeted in the ISIS onslaught.

We Yazidi youth will never forget the massacres and call the perpetrators to account. We invite the Yazidi people to join the commemoration events and actions.”
