Woman to be jailed with baby for saying “Don’t let children die"

Ayşe Çelik, who was sentenced to prison for saying “Don’t let children die" on a live TV programme in Turkey, will be imprisoned with her 2-month old baby.

Teacher Ayşe Çelik was sentenced to 15 months in prison for saying "Don't let children die" on live TV programme Beyaz Show on TV channel Kanal D which she joined through a live call from Amed (Diyarbakır) and addressed the civilian killings in the Kurdish region of Turkey on January 8, 2016.

Çelik was then sued and charged with "propagandizing for a terrorist organization" over her comments on live TV. She had said:

"Are you aware of what is happening in Turkey's Southeast? Unborn children, mothers, people get killed here. [...] The things happening here are being reflected very differently in the media. Don't remain silent... See, hear and lend us a hand now.

"Don't let people die, don't let children die, mothers shall not cry.”

Ayşe Çelik will be jailed with her 2-month old baby Deran within 10 days after her prison sentence was approved in October.
