Where is Ismail Xelil Mihemed?

There has been no news for months from Ismail Xelil Mihemed, who was released after being arbitrarily detained for two years in Hewler but was detained again while he was renewing his residence.

Ismail Xelil Mihemed, who was arrested by the KDP on the grounds that he treated an injured person after the shooting of an MIT employee at the Turkish Consulate in Hewler in July 2019, was once again arbitrarily detained.

Mihemed, 34, moved to South Kurdistan in 2015 while he was a staff member at the Cizre hospital.

According to information received from his relatives, Mihemed was working in a restaurant in Hewler.

After the murder of MIT member diplomat Osman Köse, he was arrested on the grounds that he treated a wounded person involved in the shooting and was sentenced to two years in prison.

Despite the completion of two years, he was not released. His family applied to all relevant institutions asking why Mihemed was not released.

A family member said that legally he should be released, but for political reasons he was not.

Mihemed, who was eventually released in 2 April, went to the relevant institution months later, this time because his residence permit had expired. During this application made a week later, he was detained and taken to an unknown location.

Family members say they are not allowed to make phone calls or send any belongings, nor are they informed about where he is being held.

It is stated that public order officials denied that Mihemed was taken into custody. His family asks about Mihemed's fate, stating that they haven't gotten any response even though months have passed.
