Village guards lay down arms after the murder of a civilian

4 village guards have laid down arms in protest at the murder by state forces of a civilian in Gever (Yüksekova) district of Hakkari.

On 17 July night, police raided a home in Güngör neighborhood in Hakkari’s Gever (Yüksekova) district and shot home owner Necmettin Fendik in front of his children. The father of 7 was seriously wounded after getting shot with a bullet to his chest and lost his life one day later.

4 village guards (locals armed to serve the army) in Oremar (Dağlıca) region of Hakkari have laid their arms down and submitted their resignation to Dağlıca Border Outpost in protest at the murder of Fendik by state forces.

Local sources report that more resignations are expected among village guards against the killing of the man.
