UK-EU Parliamentary Delegation in Kurdistan

The UK-EU Parliamentary Delegation has started its diplomatic tour in Kurdistan. After a series of meetings in Southern Kurdistan, the delegation will move to North and East Syria in the coming days.

A 14-member UK-EU Parliamentary Delegation, which set off from the UK yesterday, started its diplomatic tour of Southern Kurdistan and Rojava organized by the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) UK Representation and the Centre for Kurdish Progress.

The delegation includes Matt Vickers, MP of the Conservative Party, Lord David Watts and Lord John Mann of the Labour Party, MEP Lukas Sieper from Germany, Unmesh Desai, member of the London Assembly, Chris Doyle, Director of the Council for Arab-British Understanding, and EU representatives Dustin Hoffman and Chris Schiller.

On the first day of its diplomatic tour, the delegation met with Sefîn Dizayî, the head of the Kurdistan Regional Government's Foreign Relations Department, in Hewlêr (Erbil). Expressing his support for the steps taken by Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan for peace, Dizayî called on everyone in Europe and the UK to support this process.

Tomorrow, the delegation will meet with Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader Massoud Barzani. In the following days, the delegation will travel to Rojava to meet with the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) General Commander Mazloum Abdi, Co-Chair of the Autonomous Administration's Foreign Relations Department Îlham Ahmed and other officials.
