Two YRK guerrillas martyred in Turkish attack

YRK vowed to raise the flag of the martyrs higher in Kurdistan and to avenge them through building a free and democratic Kurdistan.

The Press Office of East Kurdistan Defense Units (YRK) released a statement announcing the martyrdom of two guerrillas as a result of a Turkish attack in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).

According to the statement on Sunday, the two guerrillas, Şîlan Zagros and Amanç (Rêkeft) Şerîfî, lost their lives and two others were injured in a Turkish drone attack in the area of Çuwarta, in the Pencewîn district of Sulaymaniyah on 28 July.

YRK pointed out that the fascist Turkish state is attacking prominent popular figures and patriots in its large-scale annihilation campaign against the Kurdish people.

The identity information of the fallen guerrillas is as follows:

First-Last Name: Hediya Gerdene
Nom de Guerre: Şîlan Zagros
Date and Place of Participation: 2022 / Bane
Date and Place of Martyrdom: 2023 / Çuwarta

First-Last Name: Amanç (Rêkeft) Şerîfî
Nom de Guerre: Zagros Zirêbar
Date and Place of Participation: 2022 / Pencewîn
Date and Place of Martyrdom: 2023 / Çuwarta

YRK stated that Şîlan Zagros was born into a patriotic family in Bane and joined the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla as a young woman at a time marked by the ‘Jin Jiyan Azadi’ (Woman, Life, Freedom) revolution. She took an active part in the revolutionary work and sought, like all her comrades, to be a true companion to Leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan) and the martyrs. She focused her energy on being a revolutionary based on Öcalan’s ideas and philosophy and taking revenge on the enemy. She wanted to be the voice of all women, those from Iran and Rojhilat in the first place, in the free mountains.

Zagros Zirêbar was also born and raised in a patriotic family and got to know PJAK (Kurdistan Free Life Party) at a young age. He was doing his military service when the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ revolution began and joined the guerrilla ranks in response to the repression experienced by his people. He followed in the footsteps of martyrs and sought to achieve the militancy criterion defined by Leader Apo. He trained himself ideologically and militarily on the basis of Öcalan’s ideas and philosophy.

Paying tribute to the martyrs, YRK expressed their condolences to the families of the fallen guerrillas, the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla and the Kurdish people.

“We promise to raise the flag of our martyrs higher in Kurdistan and to avenge them through building a free and democratic Kurdistan,” stated the YRK.
