Turkish soldiers injure two civilians with gunfire
In the Derecik district in the Kurdish province of Hakkari, soldiers of the Turkish army fired at a shepherd and a teenager. 17-year-old Celil Ekinci was seriously injured.
Soldiers of the Turkish army shot at 23-year-old shepherd Şahap Şendol and 17-year-old Celil Ekinci in the countryside of Hakkari province. The attack took place in the pasture near the Derindere hamlet on the Turkish border with southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). Shepherd Şendol was looking for his sheep while Celil Ekinci was in the border trade with cigarettes. Without warning, the soldiers opened fire on the two and then simply left them lying. The injured were taken to a hospital in South Kurdistan by local residents. While Şendol was injured in the hand, Ekinci suffered abdominal injuries from a bullet through the back and continues to receive treatment. HDP deputy Sait Dede published footage of the attack.
Dede: "What about the right to life?"
The MP wrote on Twitter, "The footage shows two unarmed civilian youths shot by soldiers at the border. I ask the judiciary, which, according to its concept of extermination, holds its hand over the perpetrators and encourages them: What laws do you follow, what about the right to life?"
Celil Ekinci's brother, Reşat Ekinci, made the following statement to the Mezopotamya news agency (MA): "My little brother had left for South Kurdistan with his horse in the early hours of the morning. Later he met Şahap Şendol, a relative of ours who works as a shepherd. He had lost his sheep. Celil went to him on the Turkish side of the border. On the way back to the village, the soldiers opened fire from a base without warning. The first shots killed the horse my brother was on. My brother was shot in the back.”

Ekinci went on to report that the injured laid in the compound for hours without help, "The soldiers shot to kill my brother and Şahap. We learned about the incident through a call from relatives. When we got to the area, we saw that the two horses were dead and my brother and Şahap were lying injured with the horses. The two injured people were finally taken to hospital by people from South Kurdistan on their backs. My brother is still being treated there."
