Turkish soldiers ask journalists not to take photos of YPG/YPJ in Ashma

Journalists taken to the village of Ashma, the new site of the Tomb of Suleyman Shah, have been asked by Turkish soldiers not to take photos of YPG/YPJ fighters and flags and posters of Abdullah Öcalan.

Journalists taken to the village of Ashma, the new site of the Tomb of Suleyman Shah, have been asked by Turkish soldiers not to take photos of the village, where there are YPG/YPJ fighters and where flags and posters of Abdullah Öcalan are displayed. A military spokesperson told the reporters:  “There is speculation that other organisations are keeping guard around the tomb. Our request to you is that you only take photos of our troops.”

Following the joint operation of Turkish soldiers and YPG/YPJ forces to move the tomb of Suleyman Shah, work is continuing at the new site for the tomb in the village of Ashma. Around 50 journalists were taken to the site by the Press and Information Office of the Prime Minister.

A military spokesman claimed the operation had been carried out solely by the Turkish army and attempted to stop journalists taking pictures of  YPG/YPJ flags and fighters by asking them to show ‘sensitivity.

Bands had been placed around the site of the tomb, in order to prevent YPG/YPJ flags in the village being seen.

The new site of the Suleyman Shah tomb is close to the Turkish border in an area controlled by the YPG/YPJ forces. There are several tanks at the site.
