Turkish air strikes target Asos mountains

The Turkish air force has attacked the Asos Mountains in the border area between southern and eastern Kurdistan. Reconnaissance flights are taking place over the region, where mainly PJAK is active.

The Turkish army has bombed the Asos Mountains in the border region between southern and eastern Kurdistan (Iraq-Iran). At least two large explosions occurred after the strikes in the mountains about 60 kilometers north of Sulaymaniyah late Friday morning, a reporter told the RojNews news agency.

Fighter jets reportedly continue to circle skies over the region, and reconnaissance flights are also taking place.

The PJAK (Kurdistan Free Life Party) and the YRK (Eastern Kurdistan Defense Forces) are particularly active in the Asos Mountains, which lie a good 200 kilometers from the Turkish-Iraqi border. The Turkish army regularly attacks the region.
