A few hours after the action by a guerrilla unit affiliated with the People's Defense Forces (Hêzên Parastina Gel, HPG) in the highly secured government district in Ankara, the Turkish Air Force launched a wave of attacks against South Kurdistan. Civilian settlement areas were also hit.

According to local sources, the bombings targeted Metina, Biradost, Balekayetî, Amêdî and Qandîl, among others. Civilian settlement areas were also hit by fighter jets, including the villages of Sêgirê and Guherz to the east of the small town of Amediyê.

The Turkish army's air strikes took place late on Sunday evening at around 9.30 pm  local time. It is not yet known whether people were injured. There was initially no reliable information about the extent of the attacks.

The Turkish Defense Ministry justified the air strikes in a statement with the right to self-defense. The HPG has not yet commented on the Turkish air offensive.
